  • A special website www.volnostjekdyz.cz brings information on mobile internet
  • Express your idea of what freedom is and you can win, for example, an IBM ThinkPad T41 notebook, data card, MDA or free
  • connection to the internet for several months
  • Use of GPRS and the volume of data transmitted in the T-Mobile network are constantly increasing

Prague, 17 June 2004 - Today T-Mobile is launching a special campaign aimed at the promotion of mobile connection to the internet. This campaign is being launched in co-operation with the Czech branch of IBM and Hype, Ultramix, PC World and Svìt motorù magazines. "At present, mobile connection to the internet still means rather an alternative to the stationary connection. It is the fault of a distorted market in which access to a quality connection to the internet is still rather difficult. We want to show that GPRS can temporarily replace "fixed? internet access but the principal nature of GPRS consists in the fact that you can take it with you anywhere," says Jiri Hajek, the spokesman for T‑Mobile.

A special website, www.volnostjekdyz.cz, has been created as part of the campaign. Those interested can find there basic information not only on GPRS but also on the forthcoming UMTS and already existing WiFi. The principle of mobile internet is also explained in comic strips by the famous cartoonist Josef Fraska.

This website also presents a contest. Participants have to write what their idea of freedom is by 31 August 2004. They can send their texts of up to 160 characters in length either via a SMS to 603 484 842, or they can submit them directly at www.volnostjekdyz.cz. The main winner will receive a top‑class IBM ThinkPad T41 notebook along with the T-Mobile Option Globetrotter data card. The second prize is a T-Mobile MDA II and the third prize is a T-Mobile Option Globetrotter data card - all this naturally with the T-Mobile Data Unlimited tariff free of charge for a whole year. Seventeen other winners can look forward to SIM cards with the T-Mobile Data Unlimited tariff free of charge for three months. Individual submissions will appear on the web site, where you can also find tips for interesting books on freedom (some of them can even be downloaded in electronic form) and quotations by famous persons. The contest runs until the end of August.

More and more people understand that an internet connection is important not only for work but also for entertainment, as evidenced by the constantly increasing number of internet connections. Moreover, people are now requesting a connection with which they do not have to watch the time spent connected to the internet or the volume of data transmitted and therefore they appreciate the possibility of paying a monthly fee for unlimited access to the internet. "In the Czech Republic, GPRS technology is one of the most successful ways of being connected to the internet. People use it not only for mobile connection but also for connecting desktops because they don't always have an alternative for unlimited connection. With the T-Mobile Data Unlimited tariff, they can be sure that they will pay only CZK 699 (excl. VAT) every month irrespective of the time of connection or the volume of data transmitted," explains Jiri Hajek.

Briefly on GPRS
The technology of packet data transmission allows non-stop connection where the client does not pay for the time of connection but only for the volume of data transmitted. It is used not only for connection to the internet but also for browsing through WAP pages or sending MMS. It is an ideal solution for synchronizing e-mails and for work on the internet. GPRS theoretically allows speeds of up to 171.2 kbps. Currently, data can be transmitted via GPRS in the T-Mobile network at speeds of up to 85.6 kbps.
