Public 28.12.2004 in category Press News / Services, Pricing, Handsets

  • T-Mobile customers sent more than 20 million SMS and made more than 16 million calls
  • The number of sent MMS grew by more than 250% year-on-year
  • Traffic increased by 5.4% year-on-year

Prague, 25 December 2004 - On Christmas Eve, T-Mobile customers again contributed to the growth in Christmas statistics. If Czechs want to wish someone a Merry Christmas, they prefer to do so via SMS messages: while the number of sent SMS grew by 19% year-on-year to almost 20.7 million, "only" 16.2 million calls were made - more or less the same number as in 2003 (+0.96%). However, the largest growth was recorded in the case of MMS messages - the number of sent MMS grew by 250%. The total volume of traffic increased by 5.4%. The T-Mobile network did not incur any outages during the Christmas rush.
On Christmas Eve, T-Mobile customers made almost 16.2 million calls, which represents a year-on-year increase of almost 1%. The largest volume of voice traffic was recorded between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. at which time 1.2 million calls were made. The largest number of calls at one moment was, as usual, after distribution of Christmas presents at 8:15 p.m. The overall success rate of call-connection was, even at the peak time, more than 99%.

The saying that if there were no SMS Czechs would have to invent them, was also proved by yesterday's performance of T-Mobile customers. Each of them sent 5 SMS on average (a year-on-year increase of 1 SMS per customer), which represents a total of almost 20.7 million sent SMS. Compared with last year, this is a 19% increase. Most Christmas SMS were sent, similarly to last year, between 9:45 - 10:45 a.m.

While last year customers were only getting used to MMS, this year they used them in abundance. In 2003, a total of 25,000 MMS were sent , whereas almost 88,000 MMS were sent this year, which represents a 250% increase. The theme of the MMS sent by customers was probably Christmas gifts, as the largest number of MMS - unlike SMS - was sent between 7:45 and 8:45 p.m.
4.02 million customers were registered in the T-Mobile network as on 24 December, which is 7.2% more than last year.
