- Customers' personal data will not be published in the directory without the explicit consent of customers
Prague, 21 October 2005 - T-Mobile has decided to simplify the procedure for publishing customers' data in the Uniform Telephone Directory within the so-called universal service. Under the conditions of the new Electronic Communications Act, the Uniform Telephone Directory can include contact data of mobile operators' contract customers.
In accordance with the Electronic Communications Act in force, T-Mobile originally requested from its customers who do not wish their data to be included in this directory to explicitly express their disagreement. However, according to the interpretation of the Act, which has been published by the Ministry of Information Technology in the media this week, mobile operators must, on the contrary, obtain customers' consent to the publication of customers' personal data. T-Mobile will respect this position.
The mobile operator is now contacting its customers and inquiring whether they want to use this option. If a customer does not respond to this inquiry, T-Mobile will automatically assume that such customer does not wish his/her contact data to be published in the directory, and will not provide such customer's data to the universal service provider, i.e. Cesky Telecom, for processing for the purposes of the Uniform Telephone Directory. This helpful step will certainly be appreciated by the majority of this mobile operator's customers.
In the case that some contract customers have already sent their statement of refusal of publication of data in the directory, their response will naturally be reflected during the next step. Every customer may withdraw his/her consent or disagreement at any time.
All T-Mobile contract customers will be informed of the exact procedure very soon.
What is the Uniform Telephone Directory
The Uniform Telephone Directory is a comprehensive, publicly available list of all mobile and fixed-line phone numbers in the Czech Republic. As per the Electronic Communications Act, mobile operators are also required to provide customers' basic personal data along with their phone numbers to the universal service provider, i.e. Cesky Telecom. The data provided will be used exclusively for the purposes of the issuance of the Uniform Telephone Directory and for the purposes of providing information on phone numbers.
