  • CT24 to be available at the site of the Winter Olympics
  • Unique DVB-H roaming project jointly conducted by TIM and T-Mobile CZ

Prague, 13 February 2005 - From 11 February throughout the Winter Olympics, participants and visitors will be able to watch a pilot broadcast of the CT24 TV channel on the displays of their mobile phones at the site of the Games. This is thanks to the cooperation of the Italian operator TIM, T-Mobile Czech Republic and Czech Television. For the first time ever, a mobile operator's customers will thus be able to try watching a Czech TV channel on their mobile phones abroad.

TIM, the strongest Italian telecoms company, is the main partner of the project. The operator, in the pilot operation, has included eight Italian TV channels, including sports channels, and Czech news channel CT24. TIM is providing the DVB-H technology and a large number of Sagem and Samsung terminals for the project. T-Mobile Czech Republic is a partner of the project for testing DVB-H roaming on behalf of the entire T-Mobile Group. For Czech visitors to the Games, mobile phones will thus be a convenient and complete source of information both about the Olympics themselves and happenings at home.

"The digital pocket-TV project is inspirational for the future of Czech Television," says Martin Krafl, spokesperson for the station, explaining the reasons for Czech Television's participation, adding: "New mobile technologies are bringing new opportunities for the development of digital TV broadcasting. Czech Television considers broadcasting on mobile phones to have great potential and therefore we are happy to be at its beginning."

Programs will be broadcast from 11 February till 26 February 2006 every day around the clock in Torino and at four major Olympic venues (Bardonecchia, Sestriere, Salice, Cesana - see map).

"The results of the pilot broadcast of the Czech channel abroad will be an interesting contribution to the evaluation of the whole DVB-H project," says Jiri Dvorjancansky, Executive Vice President Marketing at T-Mobile.
