Prague, 15 March 2007 - Last February, T-Mobile introduced the jaXmobilem project focused on mobile phone etiquette. Its purpose is to remind people that we should use our mobile phones in a considerate way. And there is another event being prepared, to remind people to use their mobile phones considerately: Mobile Etiquette Days will be celebrated in Prague for the first time. The four-day event takes place between 31 March and 3 April at Namesti Republiky in Prague, providing people with an opportunity to learn about the Ten Mobile Commandments, take part in an accompanying program and join an attempt to set the record in collective cartoon drawing supervised by the cartoonist Stepan Mares.
"The mobile phone has become an indispensable tool for most of us. However, we often fail to realize that we may not only annoy, but also endanger those around us, for example when not using a hands-free kit while driving", says Martina Kemrova, Head of Corporate Communication at T-Mobile, adding: "Observance of mobile etiquette should become commonplace. T-Mobile is aware of its social responsibility in this respect and that is why we want to promote the anniversary of establishing the first mobile connection as an informal day of mobile etiquette, thus extending our jaXmobilem project."
The party will start on 31 March and the main scene of the event will be Namesti Republiky. The visitors will have an opportunity to learn about the Ten Mobile Commandments, join an attempt to establish a worldwide record in collective cartoon drawing under Stepan Mares's supervision and participate in a competition for interesting prizes. A survey will also be part of the event, measuring public opinion on mobile phone etiquette. "We want to focus on children and young people this year, which is why the program reflects their interests. Students will also have a chance to familiarize themselves with the eleventh rule of mobile etiquette, covering the use of mobile phones at schools," says Martina Kemrova. The highpoint of the event will take place on 3 April, the anniversary of the first established voice connection using a mobile phone. T-Mobile has been intensively engaged in promoting mobile etiquette. The successful jaXmobilem project, which is centered around the www.jaxmobilem.cz website, was launched in 2006. The renowned cartoonist Stepan Mares has been involved in the project since the very beginning, providing illustrations and lending his name to the cause.
The project is part of T-Mobile's program of corporate social responsibility which also includes, for example, the T-Mobile Fund, which is intended to support local initiatives in the regions where T-Mobile has its offices. Furthermore, T-Mobile organizes an annual charity auction and a volunteer program for its employees, supports waste recycling on its premises and is the first mobile operator in the market to have enabled customers to hand in their old handsets at Retail Shops for the purpose of ecological disposal.
