Prague/Louny, 13 June 2007 - On Friday, the Mecholupy Logopedics Elementary School in the Louny region will organize a garden party for its children, their parents, town residents and other visitors. This event will likely be one of the town's major social events of the year. In the morning, visitors can look forward to a fair and entertainment as well as sports competitions for attractive prizes, followed by a performance of the children's music group Barbekju. In the afternoon, well-known musical artists such as Kamil Strihavka, Ilona Csakova and Vlasta Horvath will perform. The program will also include performances by magicians, martial artists and dog handlers, the departure of a hot-air balloon and other attractions. The party will run until the evening.
"The garden party is a great opportunity for children to meet and make new friends. And adults can thus gain insight into the hard but very useful work of the teachers," says Martina Kemrova, Head of Corporate Communication at T-Mobile. This year's party will take place on the school's premises and in its garden. The budget for the whole event amounts to CZK 120,000, excluding sponsors' gifts and the work done by the school's employees and residents of Mecholupy. T‑Mobile contributed CZK 50,000 from the T-Mobile Fund to this event through the Community Foundation of the Euroregion Labe.
Focusing on speech therapy, the Mecholupy Logopedics Elementary School educates children with speech and communication disorders. There are seven classes in grades 1 to 5, out of which four classes are intended for children with speech disorders and three are for children with multiple disorders. The school is attended by 57 pupils, 49 of whom are lodged in the residence hall throughout the week. "The major importance of this garden party lies in the opportunity to bring the school and the work of its teachers closer to the public. Experience from the previous events shows the apparent benefit of this. People know that we are a normal school, not an institution," says Alexandr Bednar, Director of the Mecholupy Logopedics Elementary School, adding: "Originally, this party was organized as a small party for children from the surrounding towns. Now we invite all schools and organizations which we cooperate with. Of course, we will be pleased to also welcome the children's parents, residents of Mecholupy, business partners and sponsors. We expect that around a thousand people will attend."
Last year, the Community Foundation of the Euroregion Labe distributed almost CZK 2 million from a total of CZK 5.4 million contributed by the T-Mobile Fund to the projects of non-profit citizens' groups in the Louny region. The remaining financial resources of the T-Mobile Fund are administered by the VIA foundation, which operates in the Hradec Kralove region and in Prague 11. Last year, the T-Mobile Fund supported 71 projects chosen from among 206 applications.
