Prague, 15 July 2008 - Pupils from the elementary school in Citoliby took their "Creative School" educational program very seriously. Within their school curriculum, they helped improve the environment by growing ornamental and utility trees and shrubs which they planted on the city's public grounds. They also took care of the planted shrubs and at the end of the school year they completed renovation of the grounds of a nursery school with which their school merged in the spring of this year. On the Wednesday before receiving their grade reports, their year-long efforts were appraised during a garden party whose program was prepared by the pupils of the elementary and nursery schools and their teachers.

"Teachers at the Citoliby elementary school transformed ordinary school subjects such as 'manual training' or 'arts-and-crafts' into teaching children to be environmentally responsible. Such an approach is very likely to positively influence the children's sense of values," says Martina Kemrova, Senior Head of Corporate Communication at T-Mobile.

"We planted the trees and shrubs first in the school's greenhouse and garden and when they grew up a bit, we planted them on the town's public grounds," said Jana Vurbsova, Director of the Citoliby elementary school. "All our children, regardless of their age, were involved in the project. Ecology education has been part of the curriculum since 1990 and it is naturally also part of our "Creative School' educational program." One of the first activities in which Citoliby pupils were engaged was the improvement of the grounds in front of the cemetery in the neighboring village of Listany. Pupils planted pine and spruce trees there and built a hedgerow along the adjacent road. Other activities were focused on the improvement of the school's environment and reclamation and planting of new shrubs on the grounds in front of the local vicarage. "Many pupils' parents visit us to ask for advice or to take home plant shoots," says Jana Vurbsova.

The project of the Citoliby elementary school called "Green Trees for Our Region" received a contribution from the T-Mobile Fund in the amount of CZK 25,000. The school could thus buy the necessary substrates, tools, sprinkler and wood chipper, which converts plant waste into useful mulching material. "Of course, our project does not end this year. Upon an agreement with gamekeepers, we are planning to plant trees in a pheasantry and we will also try to plant shrubs in the open country, groves and on the balks to help to protect the surrounding landscape," says Jana Vurbsova.

This is the third year that various projects have received financial contributions from the T-Mobile Fund. Funding intended for the Louny region is managed by the Community Foundation of Euroregion Labe, which selected 32 projects from among 119 applications from this region, distributing the total amount of CZK 1.7 million.
