T-Mobile launches commercial operation of the 3G network

Public 27.01.2010 in category Press News / Financial and Operational

  • 3G services available to 40% of Prague residents
  • High-speed mobile internet experience to extend to the largest Czech cities by the end of this year

Prague, 27 January 2010 - Following successful testing, T-Mobile today launches the commercial operation of its 3G network. In the first stage, the high-speed mobile internet experience will be available to Prague residents and 3G coverage will extend to the largest Bohemian and Moravian cities by the end of this year. Customers can use this new service within their existing data tariff plans and add-ons; all they need to have is a 3G enabled device.

"Beginning today, T-Mobile offers one of the most advanced versions of the 3G network currently available in the market," says Frank Meywerk, Technology Director at T-Mobile, adding: "We are very satisfied with the results of the trial operation. In many respects, the possibilities that this new technology presents have exceeded our expectations."

T-Mobile's 3G network is based on the HSPA technology supplied by Nokia Siemens Network and is ready for a smooth upgrade to the next-generation network, LTE.

Since the launch of the trial operation at the beginning of December 2009, 3G coverage in the Czech capital has been extended and is now available to 40% of Prague residents provided they have a 3G enabled handset. The availability of the high-speed mobile internet will continue to expand. During this year, 3G services should be available not only in the Czech capital but also in other regional cities in the Czech Republic. Signal coverage in the individual locations can be easily checked on the coverage map.

Customers can now enjoy the benefits of the 3G mobile internet directly on their handsets as download and upload speeds reach up to 3 Mbps and 1.5 Mbps respectively. If they do not have a 3G enabled device, they can turn to any T-Mobile shop, as 80% of all mobile phones on offer support the 3G technology.

Data transfers will be billed to customers according to their standard tariff plans or within all data tariff plan add-ons (Surf+, Surf&Mail+, Internet+ and Twist Surf+) and data tariff plans (Internet Standard, Internet Premium, Twist Internet, M2M and M2M Profi).
